Latin Flashcards. Major Phrases and Words of Wisdom is a unique set of 500 numbered cards which feature words of wisdom, quotes, and phrases sourced from the Latin cultural field: inter alia maxims from the Roman law, quotes from established literary pieces or everyday sayings. To facilitate the associative memorisation of the phrases, the course is divided into 22 topical categories and a set of phrases and utterances used on a daily basis in the Polish language. There are also colourful separators, which allow planning individual study and organizing the cards depending on their retention.
The flashcard set allows to learn and understand multiple Latin (and 2 Greek: card 68. Panta rhei, 107. Heureka!) phrases, but also to identify the authors of many quotes. Among the authors of the Latin maxims one can find Julius Caesar, Cato the Elder, Catullus, Cicero, Horace, Ovid, Phaedrus, Plautus, Seneca, Terence, Virgil, Roman emperors, ancient Greek characters and others. References to mythology are introduced by simple phrasemes: card 54. Nec Hercules contra plures, 152. Ariadnes filum, 153. Augiae stabula, 156. calx Achillis, 163. cruciatus Tantali, 189. sisyphius labor, 252. invita Minerva, 302. iracundia Achillis, 326. Inter arma silent Musae.
The course is also a great self-study revision resource for high school students, students of philology, law or medicine as well as Latin language lovers.
