Contents & Purpose

The narration of the Odyssey tells the story of the Homeric poem in a simplified and approachable manner, illustrated with cartoon drawings, and is addressed to children and teenagers with Special Education Needs (SEN).

The material is composed of illustration sheets accompanied by brief captions.
The illustrations introduce the Homeric characters beforehand, through cards with a character’s thumbnail and their name on each page. In a separate file of eleven pages, the characters interact and perform the poem’s events through cartoon sketches explained by short captions.

Only a few episodes are selected: Odysseus and the Phaeacians; Odysseus  and Polyphemus; Ulysses’ Odysseus’ return to Ithaca.  The major focus is on the encounter with Polyphemus, described in six pages.

Further comments

The slideshows of the Odyssey are in the schede didattiche section, for the category: scuola media, prima media, italiano, epica. The content is suitable for multimedia interactive whiteboards.
